Overview
Making his Cal Performances debut, Russian pianist Kirill Gerstein stands out as one of today's most fascinating young pianists. Gerstein's musical and intellectual curiosity—combined with his remarkable technique—have resulted in probing and profound explorations of classical music and jazz, advanced degrees by the age of 20, a professorship by the age of 27, and now a full performance schedule at the world's major music centers and festivals. And last year, he won the internationally recognized Gilmore Artist Award, only the sixth pianist to be so honored. "A magnetic, propulsive performance, bristling with energy and teeming with color. He appears to have a long, illustrious career ahead of him" (Cleveland Plain Dealer).
