Overview

Fri, May 17

PUCCINI
Capriccio Sinfonico

ROTA
Piano Concerto in C (with pianist Giuseppe Albanese)

BRAHMS
Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90

An exceptional ensemble in the pit, the renowned San Francisco Opera Orchestra also shines on stage in its rare performances of touchstones of the symphonic repertoire. And this should come as no surprise. When you team such accomplished musicians with a conductor as insightful and gifted as music director Nicola Luisotti, you can rest assured the results will be formidable. "Energy, dynamism, wit and emotion...no one hearing a concert this exciting could fail to be struck by the brilliance of Luisotti's orchestral conducting. There is a rhythmic buoyancy to his work that speaks of high drama, as well as a gift for bringing both humor and ripe expressiveness to a high boil" (San Francisco Chronicle).
