Overview
Le marteau sans maître (music: Boulez)
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the famed Switzerland-based dance company pays tribute to its legendary founder in two remarkable programs featuring some of its signature works. Maurice Béjart died in 2007, after an epic career spanning four decades. An innovative and influential choreographer, his flamboyant and distinctive work made him something of a pop star throughout Europe. Here in Berkeley, the company performs Béjart's Boléro, an erotically tinged masterpiece danced to the classic Ravel score, and The Rite of Spring, a frenetic, almost animalistic mating rite that both amazed and shocked audiences worldwide.
