Works by Palestrina, Tallis, Allegri, Praetorius, Byrd, and Pärt
The masters of choral music return to Cal Performances! Since founding the group nearly 40 years ago, director Peter Phillips has worked with the Tallis Scholars to create music that perfectly serves the vast Renaissance repertoire. Their unique sound, in which every detail of the musical lines is heard, has won the artists vast international acclaim. This season, the group's program juxtaposes works of Renaissance England with Allegri's exquisite Miserere and music by the contemporary Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, whose signature technique, tintinnabuli, was inspired by Renaissance polyphony and chant. "Anyone familiar with Renaissance music knows that this group has achieved superstardom" (The Boston Globe).
