Overview
Sonata in C minor, Op. 13 (Pathétique)
Winner of the coveted Avery Fisher Prize, and one of the best known and most beloved musicians of our time, Emanuel Ax possesses that rare combination of poetic temperament and unsurpassed virtuosity. He captured public attention nearly 40 years ago, when he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, and since then he has built a career characterized by the highest artistic recognition and achievement. "His greatness, his overwhelming authority as musician, technician, and probing intellect emerges quickly as he plays. Within minutes, we are totally captured by his intensity and pianistic achievement" (Los Angeles Times).
