Founded over 80 years ago, the Netherlands Bach Society is a cherished musical institution in Holland, performing regularly at festivals throughout Europe and collaborating with such eminent conductors as Roger Norrington, Masaaki Suzuki, and René Jacobs. The highly praised ensemble returns to Cal Performances following its triumphant 2004 debut tour of North America with a performance of Bach's supreme achievement, the Mass in B Minor, conducted by artistic director Jos van Veldhoven and featuring vocal soloists Dorothee Mields, Johannette Zomer, Matthew White, Charles Daniels, and Peter Harvey. "Lithe and lilting but also muscular, imaginative, and spontaneous" (The New York Times).
This presentation is made possible, in part, by the generous support of Sz-wing Ü Memorial Fund.
