with Reuben Rogers, bass, and Greg Hutchinson, drums
Since winning the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition in 1991, Berkeley native Joshua Redman has pursued his muse through a range of popular and innovative ensembles and performed with a wide range of diverse artists, from Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock to Yo-Yo Ma, and The Rolling Stones. The artistic director of the SFJAZZ Collective from 2004-2007, Redman is today considered one of the most compelling saxophone voices in jazz and returns to Cal Performances with his classic acoustic trio to delve into the musical juxtapositions of East and West that he explored in his recent release Back East.
