A rare event and season highlight, this highly anticipated return to Cal Performances promises to be a spellbinding demonstration of the art of recital at its most accomplished. Bryn Terfel is "the outstanding singer-actor of his generation, perhaps of any operatic artist of the day" (Sunday Times, London) and a frequent guest at all the major opera companies and concert halls in the world. The preeminent Figaro and Falstaff of the day, he recently made his long-awaited role debut—to thunderous acclaim—as Wotan in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. Malcolm Martineau is a frequent guest at Cal Performances, and one of the leading accompanists in the world today, regularly working with vocalists including Ian Bostridge, Susan Graham, Thomas Hampson, Anna Netrebko, and Frederica von Stade.
