Angélique Kidjo

In today's contemporary music world, there is simply no musician quite like Angélique Kidjo. Since the 1980s, the scintillating vocalist from Benin, West Africa, has created a bridge that unites the rhythms and spirits of Africa with the grooves and vibes of the New World's African diaspora. An electrifying performer, she sings in French, English-jazz vocalese, and her native Fon/Yoruba language. Her much anticipated 2007 release Djin Djin, along with her appearance as the opening act in Josh Groban's 2007 United States tour, offers ample evidence of why Kidjo is "the belle of the world-music ball, with a host of fans from Cassandra Wilson to Branford Marsalis" (Amazon.com).
