Takács Quartet
with Peter Wyrick, cello

0

One of the world's premier string ensembles, the Takács Quartet has forged an enduring relationship with Cal Performances audiences, making its seasonal appearances must-see (and always sold-out) events on the music calendar. The Grammy-winning ensemble is renowned for its seamless blend of virtuosity and personality, in which four distinct musical voices combine for gripping, unified interpretations. The group's 2008/09 performances feature two acclaimed soloists — clarinetist Richard Stoltzman (Feb 15) and San Francisco Symphony associate principal cellist Peter Wyrick. "Definitive' is a dangerous word to use about any performance...but this eloquent, expansive, and altogether thrilling account...tempts a listener to invoke every superlative in the book" (San Francisco Chronicle).

Program: Haydn/Quartet in F Major, Op. 77, No. 2; Bartók/Quartet No. 3; Schubert/ Quintet in C Major, D. 956
