Perennial Berkeley favorites, The Tallis Scholarschampioned as rock stars in the world of classical vocal musicwere founded in 1973 by director Peter Phillips. Through their remarkable recordings and concert performances, these brilliant artists have established themselves as the world's leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music. The 2009 Berkeley program focuses on music for double choir, which often relies on antiphonal effects, with the possibility of placing the choirs spatially separated from each othera style that first became popular in St. Mark's, Venice. "To hear them perform is one of the great live music experiences of our time" (Boston Globe).
Program: Music for Double Choir, featuring works by Palestrina, Philips, Lassus, Gibbons, Phinot, A. Lobo, Mouton, and H. Praetorius
