Ex Machina
The Blue Dragon

by Robert Lepage & Marie Michaud

0

Starring Robert Lepage himself, Marie Michaud, and dancer Tai Wei Foo, The Blue Dragon explores the paradox that is modern China and bears all the hallmarks of Lepage's brilliant, highly visual style. Celebrated around the world for his innovative theater and opera productions—including The Rake's Progress at San Francisco Opera, The Damnation of Faust at the Met, and Lorin Maazel's 1984 at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden—Canada's boundary-breaking theatrical genius returns to Cal Performances following his critically acclaimed The Andersen Project last June and The Far Side of the Moon in 2001.

In co-production with La Comète (scène Nationale de Châlons-en-Champagne); La Filature, Scène Nationale de Mulhouse; MC2: Maison de la Culture de Grenoble; and Le Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, Montréal, and Cal Performances.

"Lepage fans rejoice. The latest multimedia treat from his Ex Machina company is as exciting and soul-expanding as any since the first of his almost annual Cal Performances visits, 'The Far Side of the Moon.'" exclaims the San Francisco Chronicle of The Blue Dragon. Read the entire rave review.

The San Jose Mercury News says "the two-hour staging is shot through with the artist's trademark meditative tableaus." Read the entire review.
