Cesaria Evora

The reigning queen of world music returns for a rewarding evening of Cape Verde morna music, a soulful genre unique to the archipelago that fuses Latin jazz and Afro beats with traces of Portuguese fado and Brazilian modinha (ballads). Earning comparisons to Edith Piaf and Billie Holiday, in her early life Evora literally sang for her supper at bars in her native country. Now at almost 70, she has sold millions of records, won a Grammy Award, and created a thriving, international performing career. "Evora really only sings two ways: well or magnificently" (Rolling Stone).
