No season would be complete without a visit by the astonishing Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; "its never-fail dependability—superlative dancers, tight, driving works—is surely unbeaten in the dance world" (The Washington Post). Following in Mr. Ailey's visionary footsteps, artistic director Judith Jamison continues her inspired leadership, and today, any performance by the ensemble powerfully confirms the company's towering reputation. In terms of artistry, strength, and passion, nothing beats Ailey. The 2010 Berkeley residency promises wide-ranging programs packed with classics—including Ailey's "always knockout" (The New York Times) Revelations—and works by today's most exciting choreographers.
