For 40 years, Lyon Opera Ballet has captivated audiences worldwide with its experimental and adventurous repertoire. Dance pioneers such as William Forsythe, Jiri Kylián, Maguy Marin, and Bill T. Jones have discovered in Lyon a welcoming home for their most creative work, and the ensemble has forged a reputation for combining impeccable classical training with a brave contemporary spirit. A huge hit with past Berkeley audiences, these seasoned dancers return under the inspired leadership of Yorgos Loukos. "A spectacular success. The audience sat in stunned silence for much of the performance, but the cheers at the end of the American debut of this great ballet company were long and deserved" (San Francisco Chronicle).
Program: Forsythe/Duo, set to music by Thom Willems; Kylián/Bella Figura, set to music by Pergolesi, Vivaldi, and Boccherini; Maguy Marin/Grosse Fugue, set to Beethoven
Made possible, in part, by the Centennial Campaign's Creative Venture Fund through a gift from The Bernard Osher Foundation.
