Merce Cunningham dies at 90. Read and view the video obituary in The New York Times
Merce Cunningham "has routinely been described as the world's greatest choreographer" (The New York Times). His company's return visit to Berkeley features Nearly Ninety, Cunningham's extraordinary new evening-length work created in collaboration with and performed to a score by underground rock legend Sonic Youth, former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, and mixed-media sound composer Takehisa Kosugi. Featuring decor by architect Benedetta Tagliabue, lighting by Tony-winning designer Brian MacDevitt, and costumes by world-renowned fashion designer Romeo Gigli for io ipse idem, this new work is testament to the boundless creativity of one of the artistic masters of our time.
