Mark Morris Dance Group
The Hard Nut
with Berkeley Symphony Orchestra
Robert Cole, conductor
Children of the Piedmont Children's Choirs
Robert Geary, director
The beloved Bay Area tradition continues as Mark Morris's immortal The Hard Nut—a glorious and heartfelt reimagining of the Nutcracker tale—returns to its favorite holiday home! "Seriously entertaining, gorgeously danced, and improbably touching" (San Francisco Chronicle), this holiday classic is depicted with tremendous humor and wit by way of fantastic costumes and comic-book sets based on the drawings of artist Charles Burns. Morris's unique interpretation faithfully celebrates Tchaikovsky's complete original musical score. But what distinguishes The Hard Nut is the tenderness behind Morris's dazzling wit, the brilliance of the dancing itself, and scenes of deeply felt emotion.
