Representing the gold standard in early music performance today, Jordi Savall has dedicated his life to the rediscovery and performance of neglected musical treasures as a soloist and director of his three renowned ensembles—Hespèrion XXI, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, and Le Concert des Nations. Together, these cherished artists have explored and fashioned a universe of emotions and beauty, bringing recognition to the viola da gamba and to an entire world of music often not heard for centuries. Savall returns to Berkeley with his Hespèrion XXI ensemble, featuring the glorious soprano voice of Montserrat Figueras, with a program titled Lux Feminae (900-1600): Seven Portraits of the Woman in Ancient Hesperia.
